LIVE ONLINE COURSE ON ADVANCED GAME WRITING

DATES:
13 OCT 2026 - 19 NOV 2026
DURATION:
6 WEEKS
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS
6 PM GMT

Move beyond the page. Learn to create your own playable narrative game.

Taught by Kelsey Howard, Senior Narrative Designer on Helldivers 2 and ex-Quest & Narrative Design Lead at Mojang. You'll leave with a portfolio-ready game and insider know-how studios pay for.

THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU, IF...

  • YOU ARE A PAST GAME WRITING STUDENT

You've mastered the page, but studios want proof you can build. This video game writing course pushes you past the page and into engines, production scoping, and a real writers' room, so you graduate with something studios actually hire for: a playable game.

  • YOU ARE A GAME WRITER, CREATIVE WRITER, OR SCREENWRITER

You can structure a scene, land subtext, and build a character arc, but games don't move in straight lines. This game writer course translates your existing craft into interactive storytelling, gives you insider knowledge on hiring pipelines and portfolio standards, and hands you a shippable proof of concept recruiters actually want to see.

YOUR ASCENT STARTS HERE

Advance to the next level: A playable game.

You'll leave with a fully playable, choice-driven game built in Twine or Ren'Py, complete with branching dialogue and a working story arc. Along the way, you'll master production scoping, studio-style pitching, and the same planning documents professional narrative teams use to keep projects on track.

Plot twist: You’re learning live with a pro.

Twice a week, you'll write, pitch, and troubleshoot alongside a working AAA narrative lead. Small-group workshops mean your scripts get read aloud, critiqued, and rebuilt in real time — exactly how studio writers' rooms actually operate.

ABOUT THE COURSE
01
LEARN BY DOING

Every week puts you inside a live writers' room, co-writing scripts, worldbuilding, and workshopping choices with your peers. You'll pitch ideas aloud, take feedback in real time, and rebuild scenes on the spot. By the final week, you won't just understand branching narrative; you'll have shipped one.

02
INSIGHT YOU CAN’T GOOGLE

Guest speakers pull back the curtain on moving from script to engine and what directors actually look for in a portfolio. Kelsey brings eleven years of AAA experience, from Wargaming to Mojang to Arrowhead, straight into every case study and lesson. You'll study real production pipelines and hiring standards, not textbook theory.

03
A PORTFOLIO PIECE THAT OPENS DOORS

You'll graduate with a fully playable, choice-driven game and a Steam or Itch.io page written to sell it. It's tangible proof you can scope, write, and ship — exactly what studios want to see before they'll take a chance on you. This is the project that turns applications into interviews.
